The Religious Education Department plays a central role in the life of St Margaret Mary’s Secondary, contributing to the academic, emotional, and spiritual development of our pupils, staff and the wider community.

The Religious Education Department provides a core curriculum of RE to all pupils from S1 to S6. Almost all classes from S1 to S4 are taught by the specialist teachers, with additional help from non-specialist teachers within the upper school.

Pupils are further supported in their development through regular visits for prayer and meditation to the oratory, Year Group Masses, visits from the chaplain and an extensive and expanding retreat programme. The retreats in particular are very successful, linking with the Motherwell Diocesan Pastoral Centre, the Archdiocesan Youth Team and the Schoenstatt centre at Campsie Glen.

We also raise money for charities like SCIAF, Lepra and the Christmas Box Appeal. We collaborate with the local RC parishes, SVDP groups and the local Church of Scotland Parishes concerning the distribution of Christmas Parcels.
